Calling All Our Vegan Visitors!
Upon first glance, Filipino food and desserts might not necessarily scream “vegan-friendly” to most. But at Mamasons, fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment and delivering our delicious sweets to everyone is, and always has been, an important part of our company mindset! We want everybody, regardless of dietary restrictions, to try the desserts we have on offer—including our vegan customers! In this spirit, we have developed the Bohemian Raspberry, a vegan Halo Halo (a popular Filipino crushed ice dessert) that is made with our very own vegan Caramel Leche Flan, a creamy dairy-free Coconut and Berry Sorbeto, and drizzled with a colourful strawberry coulis syrup.
The UK’s Uptick in Veganism
Veganism in the UK has grown astronomically in recent years. According to The Vegan Society, from 2014 to 2018 alone, the number of vegans literally quadrupled, going from about 150,000 to 600,000. Moreover, almost half (42%) of these 600,000 vegans indicated that they’d made the switch in 2018, which means that veganism isn’t merely expanding steadily—it’s actually growing at an exponential rate. If you’re part of this rapidly growing group, Mamasons has your back. We believe that everyone should have access to our classic Filipino desserts no matter what, and guarantee that the Bohemian Raspberry is just as sweet, delicious, and flavour-packed as every other item on the menu!
Four other ingredients round out the leche flan and sorbeto: nata de coco, jackfruit, buko coconut, and adzuki sweet red bean all complement the other flavours in the Halo Halo nicely and add some great texture. Nata de coco is a chewy and translucent food that is made from the fermentation of coconut water. It has a jelly-like consistency. Jackfruit is part of the fig, mulberry, and breadfruit family, and is frequently used in many South and Southeast Asian dishes. Buko coconut shavings are also incorporated into the Halo Halo, adding a little shot of the tropical Philippines to your London winter snack. Finally, adzuki sweet red bean refers to the colourful red beans that are typically grown throughout East Asia and the Himalayas, and which are normally sweetened before consuming.
Is your mouth watering yet? Whether or not you’re actually vegan, the Bohemian Raspberry is a must try for everyone! We’re so excited to present this beautiful, colourful, and super tasty Halo Halo in our Camden Town and Chinatown stores—come and get them while you can! We promise you’ll have a berry good time, guaranteed :)
